Developing an Enhanced Protection of Median Openings Between Parallel Bridge Structures

Description: The MOPS installation consisted of two impact attenuating nets, each anchored into a concrete mowstrip and pier system. The MOPS was installed in the center of a 28-ft-wide 6:1 V-shape ditch. The two nets were separated by 50 ft along the length of the ditch. Each net was anchored with energy absorbers, which arrest impacting vehicles through the deforming of a steel tape around a series of pins or bearings. The lower cable of the first net was located 10 inches above grade. The second lowest cable on the second net was located 20 inches above grade.
