Hawaii DOT Flared Buried-in-Backslope Guardrail End Terminal Part 1 – Standard Direction Tests
Report Number(s): TRP-03-496a-25
Description: Some design modifications were made to the original HDOT BIB system design. Post nos. 28 through 38 were 6 ft long, and post nos. 1 through 27 were 7 ft long. The height of the top of the rail was 31 in. above the roadway surface for post nos. 17 through 39. The rail maintained a constant height above the ditch between post nos. 6 and 16. Lastly, the rail was horizontal and at a constant height between post nos. 1 and 6. However, because the anchor block from test no. 1 was reused, new holes were drilled into the anchor block and post-installed anchors were used to attach the rail end shoes to the anchor block. One of the existing ferrule openings was reused to accommodate the updated rail placement on the block. This change resulted in a slight inclination of the rail between post nos. 1 and 6
