The Michigan DOT uses a couple of thrie‐beam retrofit designs for upgrading substandard bridge railings that we would be interested in evaluating under MASH, TL‐3 criteria. See the “Michigan Bridge rail retrofit drawings and photos.pdf. Perhaps other states in the pooled fund would be interested in evaluating these designs as well.
Also, there is a design (see the “Michigan low speed fence barrier combination.pdf) that was never crash tested, but perhaps stands a chance of passing MASH, TL‐2 or perhaps TL‐1. This design would be useful in cases where a fence‐barrier combination is beneficial. Perhaps the group would be interested in this design as well.
